Kashmir- the food capital.
Another white elephant.
The reality of Kashmir is being brushed under Kebabs.
It hurts nobody but India.
Kashmiris were frequently asked about the mountains and lakes, then it was about the rebels and now it will about FOOD. The question might be like: “What’s a Ghustaba?” and the Kashmiri might try to answer like: “it’s a ball of finely minced meat, cooked in yogurt, it tastes awesome!” And this is what he will be reduced to: an expert in food, maybe he might be asked to join as a cook. Indians used to think that all Kashmiris could paddle a boat (courtesy of movies like Kashmir Ki Kali), even though not all Kashmiris have been on one, let alone know how to paddle. It might now be presumed that all Kashmiris can cook Ghustabas and Kebabs. Some might even presume that all Kashmiris (irrespective of age, sex, socio-economic status) know how to cook the Kashmiri Wazwaan (having around forty dishes). It might sound stupid but it’s not.
The true dreams, desires, sufferings and hopes are being buried under the rubble of food.
In case you read the news item and are wondering what’s wrong in trying to attract tourists. Nothing is wrong, but there is a method of doing so and that’s called advertising. TV ads for a start.
White elephants of Kashmir include the Jammu and Kashmir Tourism Department, The Jammu and Kashmir Tourism Development Corporation (JKTDC), The Jammu and Kashmir Lakes and Waterways Development Authority (JKLWDA) and the Gulmarg Development Authority(GDA). All of these development (aka destruction) agencies have already been talked about in this blog.
